The Amazon Prime Early Access Event Presented at Amazon.com/Gear Editor’s Diggin. I. The Best Fire, Best Tablet, and Best Echo Dot
Back in 2015, Amazon made waves with its first annual Prime Day shopping event. You cannot just make up a shopping holiday. folks cried, and yet the sale took off, statistically outperforming Black Friday and Cyber Monday in some years. It led to competing sales and millions of Amazon Prime memberships. And it’s happening again—kind of. Amazon has another Prime Day this year, called the Prime Early Access event, which runs from October 11 to October 12.
Special offer for Gear readers: Get a 1-year subscription to WIRED for $5 ($25 off). You will get unlimited access to WIRED.com and our print magazine. Subscriptions help fund the work we do every day.
Since several new gadgets were unveiled by Amazon, discounts on older models have been seen. We’ve highlighted the best deals below, but you can check out all of the Amazon device discounts here.
This is a match of a low price we’ve only seen a couple of times. The Fire HD 10 (7/10, WIRED Recommends) is our favorite Amazon tablet. If you pair it with a keyboard it will do some light work, but it’s powerful enough that you won’t mind being away from your desk. There is a way to access more apps if you add the Google Play Store. It’s hard to find another good tablet at such a low price. There are guides to the Best Fire and Best Tablet.
The Echo Dot (4th Gen) without the clock was on sale for $25 earlier this week, but that deal is now expired. This model is basically exactly the same as the fourth-generation Echo Dot (8/10, WIRED Recommends) —it just has a display that shows what time it is so you don’t have to ask Alexa. If you want the latest and greatest, you’d better get the fifth-gen model, because this version has been our favorite for a long time. This fourth-gen model is still a great device. It’s small enough to fit in any room, and the sound quality is decent despite its size. You can listen to music, check the weather, set alarms, and play with your voice.
This price is the best we have seen so far. It’s a bad sunrise alarm, but it’s a decent nightlight. It works well in a guest room with the exception of the fact that theAlexa speakers can also be used as sound machines. The lamp needs to be controlled by either the alia app or echo device.
The Amazon Echo Show 8 is our favorite Alexa-powered smart display, and this price brings it down to $5 cheaper than we saw during this past Prime Day—a historic low. You can use the 8inch display size to check weather or follow a recipe. A camera with pan and zoom capabilities can be used to make video calls. Read our guide to get more recommendations.
WIRED Recommendations: Best Early Early Prime Day Deals Access-Sale 2022-2 for the Google Pixel 6A
The WIRED Recommends that the Google Pixel 6A is our favorite phone, and it also earned our top pick as the Best Cheap Phone. This deal is a match of the best discount we’ve seen. ThePixel 6A is one of the best value phones on the market and it is available when it is not on sale. This deal is hard to find a better one if you want a new phone.
It costs a fortune. But it folds. Extra screen real estate is really nice. On a bigger screen, life is made easier thanks to improved multitasking in the Android 12L. The battery life is decent, and the screen is bright and smooth. This is the lowest price we’ve seen to date on this relatively new folding phone.
The iPad Mini has a smaller, 8.3-inch screen than the iPad Pro, which has a bigger, 9.7-inch screen. It’s portable makes it good for traveling. You might even be able to fit it into your cargo pants pocket.

The Best Accessories Guide for Apple Watches: A Primer on Razor Mouse Recommendations Including a High-Resolution LCD Monitor, a Color Monitor, and a Soundbar
The recently released Apple Watch Series 8 (8/10, WIRED Recommends) is our favorite Apple Watch, and it’s already on sale. (The 41-mm version is also on sale for $349.) Most people will be fine with the new second-generation Watch SE, but this model includes an electrocardiogram, an always-on display, a skin temperature sensor for better period tracking, a more accurate heart-rate monitor, and the ability to measure blood oxygen levels. The best Apple Watch accessories guide can be checked for additional recommendations.
This is the smaller, corded companion to our favorite Razer mouse, the Razor Ultimate. The accuracy is very good, even though the mouse is called “mini” and is a standard-size mouse. It’s a great cheap mouse if the one below is out of your budget.
The TCL 6-Series (9/10, WIRED Recommends) is the best TV for most people. It was cheaper earlier in the week, but it is still an excellent deal for the 55-inch size. The quantum dot panel means viewers will experience bright colors, deep blacks, and excellent contrast. This TV also has Roku built right in for easy streaming capabilities. If you don’t need the latest and greatest, the TCL 5-Series is nearly as good as the 6-Series—we recommend it for entry-level TV shoppers—and every size is on sale. In the guide you can read more about them.
HW-Q990B (8/10, WIRED Recommends) is a terrible name for a product, but this is an amazing soundbar. Clear dialog and crisp music can be enjoyed by the people in the room. It’s similar to a traditional home theater setup.
Thermapen and Best Espresso Machines for Home Cooking and a Coffee Machine at a Low Price: Reviewer’s Guide
This is a better deal than the one we have seen because of the Shipping and costs factored in. Thermapens are popular, and we like them a lot. This model is included in the Best Gifts for Home Chefs guide, while a slightly more expensive cooker from the brand is included in our Best Grills and Best Grilling accessories guides. The Thermapen One has a backlight that gives accurate temperature taking even in the dark, and it spits out a temperature reading in one second. It folds down to be easy to store.
We last saw a deal like this last December. It’s a good time to get into it if you missed it, but you could be in the market again at a later time. This luxe (and pricey) espresso machine has a built-in burr grinder and hot water spout. Simply load it up with beans and tap the digital display to whip up drinks at home. There’s even a steam wand for easy lattes and cappuccinos. Our Best Espresso Machines and Best Latte Machines guides have additional picks, including some that are easier on your wallet.
These go on sale frequently during the holidays, but this is a solid price if you’re in the market and you don’t want to wait. I have a brew on my desk. It’s great for folks that live alone or don’t have a lot of counter space. The colors are on sale. A refillable pod makes pod brewers more economical.
There are many different weights to choose from, and many of them are on sale for historically low prices. We haven’t tested these ourselves, but they have good reviews. Some reviews mention the rubber has a bad odor on arrival, but a few days of ventilation should nix that if it arises. If you’re trying to get a pair, you’ll need to add two to your cart.
Stellar Deals on Apple’s Latest High-Performance Devices, and What to Look For When You’re About to Splurge
Deals on some of Apple’s latest iPads can sometimes be frequent and fierce. The current cheapest iPad Air is selling for $479 with 64GB of storage and the same features as the previous model. The Prime Early Access Sale, which began this morning, has numerous discounts through tomorrow, including the $80 discount. This one, like many others, is exclusive to Amazon Prime subscribers. Best Buy is also discounting Prime if you don’t do it.
The latest iPad Air retains the iPad Pro-esque redesign of the 2020 model but does away with the A14 Bionic processor in favor of Apple’s lightning-fast M1 chip. One of the five colors comes with a 12MP front-facing Camera that supports Apple’s Center Stage feature.

It’s Samsung’s 50th anniversary, and the company is celebrating with a deals event that runs through November 1. Everything from Samsung’s brand-new Galaxy Z Fold4 folding smartphone to its QLED 8K Smart TV is on sale. Some items will remain discounted all week, but the company is having some exclusive daily deals until the event ends, so make sure to check back if your device isn’t on sale just yet. Here are a few of the best deals right now.
If you use the SAMSUNG trade-in program, you can get a significantly lower price for nearly everything, regardless of whether you have a device or not. You have options if you choose to dispatch your phones, tablets, and smartwatches from a variety of brands. However, you should always check elsewhere first to see if you can get more for your device. There are a few services and websites we recommend you use here. Make sure you factory-reset your old device before you trade it in.
If you don’t send in your trade-in device or if it doesn’t meet eligibility requirements, the company might decide to shut down your new product remotely.
Getting the most out of your smartphone? The flip4 ($8/10, WIRED Recommendations) is the cheapest deal in the UK
The brand-new Fold4 (8/10, WIRED Recommends) is for anyone who wants to live on the edge of smartphone technology. You get a large tablet-like screen when you open this device—great for multitasking with multiple app windows or for just watching your favorite show in bed. The normal phone functions can be accessed on the exterior screen if you close it. It’s a chunky device, but that’s a sacrifice you’ll have to make for all that tech. This deal is also available at Amazon.
I don’t like the way people emotionally hang up a phone at the end of a conversation. The Flip4 may be for you if you’re looking for alamming your phone shut. It looks like a normal smartphone, but it folds in half to become a really compact device in your bag or pocket. And yes, you can end calls by closing the device.

A Deal on a 4K TV from Best Buy: The S8 Ultra vs. the S8 Plus OLEDs at Amazon and Best Buy
The S8 Ultra is a more powerful and extra-powerful version of the Tab. It’s positively massive, with a 14.6-inch AMOLED screen, and it has all the high-end specs, like a 120-Hz screen refresh rate. Inside is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset too, so it has heaps of power. There’s some light work to be done with the DeX mode. And while Android on a tablet has some quirks, Google has plans to improve the platform over the course of the year, so this machine should get better with time. It is also available at Amazon.
Most people should use the Tab S8+, because of the S8 Ultra. You can get a big screen with the same specifications as its pricier sibling. If you are looking for a large-screen iPad Pro alternative, this is it. This deal is also available at Amazon.
It may sound vain, but the Samsung QN900B (8/10, WIRED Recommends) is really pretty. The screen is thin and has an uncompromising visual spectacle. With its 8K resolution, you’re getting the most detailed, colorful picture and the highest quality processing available. There’s not a lot of 8K content to consume and the interface isn’t great. This deal is also available on Amazon.
Having an OLED 4K TV on your wish list used to be a dream that few could afford to make come true, but that’s not the case anymore. Best buy has a 48-inchLg A2 in the $600 range. The previous-gen A1 dropped very low in price, so it is great to see that the special discount has stayed around for the past couple of weeks. This is one of the top early Black Friday deals at Best Buy, and it also has an extended holiday return period.
Nvidia GeForce Now: A Cloud-Based Game Streaming Service For Free and Low-Dimensional Player-Interaction Games
There was a discount on a subscription to the Nvidia’s graphics card. The game streaming service is cloud based. The Priority tier is just $29.99 for six months, compared to $49.99. This tier offers 1080p / 60 frames per second gameplay, six-hour game sessions (compared to just one-hour sessions for the free tier), and access to a faster virtual gaming PC that can display ray-traced graphics. This promotion will last until November 20th.
Nvidia’s GeForce Now lets you play PC games that you already own (plus some free-to-play titles like Fortnite) while you’re away. You can play games at up to 60 frames per second in the Priority tier.
