The family of Halyna Hutchins settles with Alec Baldwin.

The Rust Game with Matthew Hutchins: A Settlement with a Long-Lived Shooting Lead to a Shotgun

The family of Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins reached a settlement with the producers of the movie Rust, over her death last year.

Matthew Hutchins will serve as executive producer and the filming of Rust will continue with the original principal players on board according to the settlement.

“Throughout this difficult process, everyone has maintained the specific desire to do what is best for Halyna’s son,” Baldwin said in an Instagram post Wednesday morning. “We are indebted to everyone who supported the resolution of this tragic and painful situation.”

Hutchins was killed in October when Baldwin accidentally shot a live round while holding a gun.

Baldwin said he was following Hutchins’ instructions while he was working on a scene for the Western.

“I cock the gun. Can you see that? Can you see that? In a December interview with George Stephanopoulos, Alec Baldwin asked, ‘Can you see that?’ The gun went off after I let go of the hammer.

Earlier this year, Baldwin filed an arbitration demand against Rust producers, arguing that it wasn’t his responsibility to check the gun for live ammunition and that he should be protected from any legal claims.

He said he was thrilled to be able to finish the film with the support of her family and she was honoured to be praised by him.

If it was done with the help of Matt and the Hutchins family, the decision to return to finish the film could only make sense for me.

“My every effort on this film will be devoted to honoring Halyna’s legacy and making her proud. He said it was a privilege to see this through on her behalf.

Melina Spadone said that the settlement was an important step forward in honoring Halyna’s life and work.

A cross-complaint was obtained by CNN that stated Alec Baldwin had filed a lawsuit in California against people associated with the film.

Baldwin owed the Cross Defendants a duty to keep the set safe. Everyone on set, including Baldwin, expected and trusted them to do so. Hutchins and Baldwin shared the same state of mind, so if Hutchins had told Baldwin to pull the hammer, she wouldn’t have even thought about it.

“This tragedy happened because live bullets were delivered to the set and loaded into the gun, Gutierrez Reed failed to check the bullets or the gun carefully, Halls failed to check the gun carefully and yet announced the gun was safe before handing it to Baldwin, and Zachry failed to disclose that Gutierrez Reed had been acting recklessly off set and was a safety risk to those around her,” the complaint alleges, adding Baldwin was unaware of those facts, but the cross-defendants knew.

Baldwin is seeking damages through a jury trial and other relief through the Superior Court of Los Angeles County, according to the cross-complaint.
