David D. DePape, the man who killed a 49-year-old in San Francisco, was arrested in connection with a break-in
Police entered a home in the predawn hours. The police chief in the city said they found Pelosi with a man who had a hammer and that he had been identified as David DePape. Officers saw DePape “violently assault” Pelosi with the hammer before they tackled him to the ground and arrested him.
The US attorney’s office and the San Francisco district attorney announce on Monday that DePape has been charged with a slew of crimes, including assault, attempted murder and attempted kidnapping, following the break-in at the couple’s San Francisco home. He was charged with one count of “attempted kidnapping of a US official,” according to the US attorney’s office for the Northern District of California. That charge relates to Nancy Pelosi, who DePape told police he planned to “hold hostage,” according to an FBI affidavit also unsealed on Monday.
“He has obviously been booked on these charges, we will file our complaint, we expect for him to be in court tomorrow, and that’s the most I can say,” Jenkins said in a news conference Monday, adding that DePape’s prior arrests and criminal history will be discussed in court Tuesday.
She said that it appears as though this was politically motivated, based on his statements and comments made in that house during his encounter with Mr. Pelosi.
It was around that time that Mr. DePape took out zip ties from his pocket. In a recorded interview with police officers, Mr. DePape said he wanted to restrain Mr. Pelosi so he could go to sleep, because he was tired from carrying his backpack to the house.
Paul Pelosi, a domestic violent extremist, apologizes for his attack on Paul and invites you to the bathroom, where you can get help if you want
Thousands of messages conveying concern, prayers and warm wishes have come in since the attack on Paul early Friday. The statement said that they are most grateful.
Nancy Pelosi said in a previous press release that Paul Pelosi underwent surgery to repair a skull fractures and serious injuries to his right arm and hands after the attack.
The court filing related to the federal charges against DePape revealed the most detailed account yet of Paul Pelosi’s 911 call while the incident was unfolding.
In an interview, Pelosi stated that the male in the home will be waiting for Pelosi’s wife. Pelosi does not know who the male is. The male said he was called David, according to the affidavit.
At one point, Mr. Pelosi tried to access an elevator, which has a phone, but was blocked from doing so, according to the local prosecutor. At some point after that, Mr. Pelosi hid in the bathroom and called for help from his cellphone. Officers with the San Francisco Police Department arrived eight minutes later to find the two men struggling over a hammer.
“There’s no place for it in this country,” Mayorkas said in his first remarks since the attack last week, adding that it was difficult to label the incident “domestic terrorism” because of the legal implications of the term.
On the same day that Pelosi was attacked, federal authorities warned in a joint assessment that domestic violent extremists pose a heightened threat to the 2022 midterm elections.
“It is not impossible to protect our kids at school. They act like they are doing it. Lake claimed that Nancy Pelosi has protection when she is in DC, but her house does not have a lot of protection.
Donald Trump Jr., meanwhile, shared an image on social media of a hammer and a pair of underwear with the words “Got my Paul Pelosi Halloween costume ready.”
The Break-In of McConnell’s Door: An Insight by a Reporter at the New Jersey Postal Detector for Political Campaigning
Several prominent Republicans, including Senate Minority LeaderMitch McConnell, have condemned the attack but others, including former President Donald Trump, have offered a more cautious response.
The federal charges accompanied an affidavit from a F.B.I. agent that provided a chilling narrative of the break-in. It explained the home invasion that ended with a single hammer blow delivered to police officers.

The officers quickly restrained Mr. DePape, who told them that he had left his backpack near the smashed door window on the rear porch. When they examined its contents, they found another hammer, tape, rope, two pairs of gloves — rubber and cloth — and a journal.
A reminiscence of the Detention of a Canadian citizen in San Francisco, Calif., following his Oct. 28 arrest
Nancy Pelosi said that Paul remained under doctors’ care as he continued to progress in his recovery. His family request privacy now that he is at home.
He also waived his right to a hearing within 10 days at his arraignment at a San Francisco court room. Judge Diane Northway set a hearing for Friday in San Francisco Superior Court to set a date for the preliminary hearing and bail setting.
“U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) lodged an immigration detainer on Canadian national David DePape with San Francisco County Jail, Nov. 1, following his Oct. 28 arrest,” the department said.
