The Phillies, the Philadelphia Eagles, and the Philadelphia Texans: A New Face at the World Series. After Game 4 and Game 4, the Philadelphia Phillies defeated the San Diego Padres 4-3
The World Series lineup shows a familiar face going against a team that isn’t been to the Fall Classic in 13 years.
The Astros defeated the Phillies 3-2 to take a three-games-to-two series lead, continuing on its roll after no-hitting the Phillies in Game 4 Wednesday.
In Philadelphia earlier Sunday, the Phillies defeated the San Diego Padres 4-3, winning its series in five games. A two-run Home run by BryceHarper in the 8th gave the Phils a victory and assured them of a series win. The Philadelphia Inquirer reported that a preview ofHarper’s home run to win the series was given to Kevin Long, the team’s hitting coach.
By contrast, Philadelphia began slowly in the season. The team was 21-29 entering the month of June and fired manager Joe Girardi. The last team to qualify for the playoffs in the majors was the Phillies, who finished runner-up in the regular season. It will be the first time in Major League Baseball’s history that a third-place team will win the World Series.
In Pennsylvania there was a game between the PhiladelphiaPhillies and Houston Astros looking to take the lead in the World Series. The Philadelphia Eagles, the only team without a loss in the league, was hosted by the Houston Texans.
Philadelphia rallied to within one run and had Bryce Harper on base in the bottom of the ninth, but a sensational catch at the wall by Astros outfielder Chas McCormick helped preserve Houston’s victory as the clock struck midnight.
“I was kind of laying out for whatever at that point,” McCormick said postgame. “I saw the wall. I saw the warning track. It was just high enough for me to get in and reach out and go get it.”
Houston Astros pitcher Justin Hurts: The first time in his career that he’d been able to win a World Series championship
After a long wait, Astros’ starting pitcher was able to collect his first career World Series victory after giving up one run and six strikeouts. He told reporters he received treatment form his teammates after the game.
It was a very emotional time in his career when he was dowsed in the shower and put in a cart. “Just truly love these guys. I love our team.”
The game was tied at 14 after the Eagles missed a field goal in the final moments of the first half, and Houston only trailed 21-18 after three quarters.
Hurts rushed up the middle for the 2-point conversion after throwing a 4-yard touchdown to Goedert in the second quarter. James Bradberry picked off a pass in the red zone and sealed the win for the Eagles.
After the game Hurts said that he had lost a national title in college and that he was happy for the city but stressed that there was more to come.
“Take it day by day. He said that they haven’t accomplished anything yet. We try to grow every day and we have to control the things that we can.
